Novelis Case Study - Foliage Design Systems

Project Overview

Novelis is a global leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, supplying sustainable aluminum solutions to industries that include beverage packaging, automotive, and aerospace. As part of a new-build headquarters in Buckhead, Atlanta, Novelis wanted its office environment to reflect the same commitment to sustainability and innovation that defines its business.

Foliage Design Systems partnered with the Novelis team during the construction phase to design and install indoor office plants and plant walls that would support both the company’s brand values and the day-to-day experience of employees and visitors.

Design and Scope

The design process focused on creating a consistent experience across multiple floors while allowing each space to serve its own purpose. Common areas on three floors were identified as key locations for plant walls, including first impression spaces, dining areas, and meeting lounges.

Twelve living green walls were installed using pothos, selected for its durability, fullness, and ability to thrive indoors. In addition to the plant walls, approximately 150 individual plants were installed throughout the office, ranging from snake plants to pencil cacti.

All installations were completed while construction was still underway. Our team worked in full PPE and coordinated closely with other trades to meet project timelines. Material lead time was approximately two weeks, with the full installation completed in about one week.

Ongoing Care

Following installation, Foliage Design Systems began weekly office plant maintenance to ensure long-term plant health and consistency across all floors. This includes pruning, monitoring plant health, and proactive care for both individual plants and plant walls.

Results

The completed space delivers a strong visual statement while supporting Novelis’ eco-focused brand. The plant walls create a sense of immersion and continuity between floors, while the indoor office plants soften architectural lines and make shared spaces more inviting.
